Our Intensive English program, which consists of 23-25 hours of class time per week, has levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and includes test preparation courses and electives.
The course focuses on Speaking, Listening, Pronunciation, Vocabulary, and Reading and Writing. Completing the program will prepare students to begin their studies at American universities and help them achieve English language proficiency as they learn key English language skills and engage in practical, real-world conversations.
The Intensive English program consists of 12 levels; students can successfully complete one level during each four-week session.
Our General English program, which consists of 18-22 hours of class time per week, has levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and includes test preparation courses. This program meets F1 Student requirements by providing a minimum of 18 hours a week of class time. Like the Intensive English Program, this program focuses on Speaking, Listening, Pronunciation, Vocabulary, and Reading and Writing.
Completing the program will prepare students to begin their studies at American universities and help them achieve English language proficiency

SEMI-INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM
This program is for students seeking to complete 16 hours or less of English study per week. This program is designed to help individuals and students achieve English language proficiency through a more relaxed class schedule. The program focuses on Speaking, Listening, Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Reading, and Writing from beginner to advanced levels.
The Legal English Program is designed to introduce foreign practitioners, law students, and interested students to legal English concepts. Lectures, written assignments, in-class exercises, and contract negotiations. Participants whose native language is not English will practice a wide array of legal English skills, ranging from legal reading and writing strategies to oral presentation of substantive legal issues.
This professional training course incorporates current business theory with practical and critical thinking skills, to provide a context based approach to business English. The Academy tailors the Business English course to the needs of the students and their sponsor, with special emphasis on Marketing, Finance, Management, and Human Resources. All courses help English learners communicate better when presenting, taking part in meetings and negotiating.
This program focuses on pronunciation and conversational training that is designed to develop oral communication skills, and build learner confidence. Students will benefit from a focus on comprehensibility and contextualized practice. The course focuses on presentation skills, which offers students an opportunity to develop the life skill of talking about topics to an audience outside the classroom.
Preparing for standardized tests is a crucial aspect of applying to study at universities in the United States. ILA offers a variety of test preparation classes to better prepare students who are taking TOEFL and IELTS with sessions that are held during regular class hours, the evening, and on weekends to better accommodate individual needs.
One on One
ILA offers one on one sessions to better meet individual needs and time frames. We tailor our English lessons to our students, helping prepare them for future study and life in the US.
Summer and Vocational programs are two to three weeks sessions, in which English Language courses are combined with fun, cultural and social activities in the Washington D.C. area. ILA implements a full day schedule, that starts with classes during the day, and cultural, social and entertainment activities in the evenings.
Looking for evening conversational classes? Our new conversation class helps people practice their day to day conversations and accent reduction. This class is perfect for those who do not have the time to attend classes every day and are looking for a more relaxed, informal way to learn English.
Our Conversation Class is available Tuesday and Thursday evenings and requires no textbook purchase. This program can also act as an additional elective for students already enrolled in another ILA program.
